This page describes the basic requirements for installing WSO2 SOA Enablement Server for Java and describes various installation options.

Basic Requirements  Locate

WSO2 SOA Enablement Server for Java is supported on Win32 and several UNIX platforms. WSO2 SOA Enablement Server for Java is supported by:

  • Sun JDK 1.4 and 1.5 on Windows, Linux, and Solaris platforms.

  • IBM JDK 1.4 on Linux and AIX platforms

[Important]Important

For UNIX users: Be sure that the /bin directory (or a directory where the chmod utility is located) is set in the PATH before installation. If not, set it with the command export PATH=$PATH:/bin.

Also, be certain that the JAVA_HOME variable and the PATH to $JAVA_HOME/bin are set.

Installation Types  Locate

There are three major installation types: Server, Client and Custom. These may or may not include components for backward compatibility (BC) and the WSO2 SOA Enablement Server security framework (SEC). The steps for installation are somewhat different for each, and are described in Wizard Installation.

  • Server - Installs all basic components of the WSO2 SOA Enablement Server and client sides.

  • Client - Installs the client-side components of WSO2 SOA Enablement Server. Also note that you can create a standalone JSP/servlet-based Web Services consumer application using WSO2 SOA Enablement Server client.

The standard Client and Server installations with and without security and backward compatibility are described in Installation Scenarios.

  • Custom - Lets you choose which components of WSO2 SOA Enablement Server to install. Security support and backward compatibility are chosen in the course of selecting components. See Custom Installation in Wizard Installation for details.

Installation options include saving the installation configuration for later use. This is especially useful for vendors wishing to embed WSO2 SOA Enablement Server in their own products.
